Get to know our Team:
The Deliveries tech family is an engineering team which is responsible for multiple key business in Grab (e..g Food, Mart, and Express). We are running on a microservice architecture in backend and are also providing various of frontend techniques (e.g. IOS, ADR, Flutter, Web) for our end users (e.g. Customer, Drivers, Merchants, and to-B partners) across 7 countries. We are aiming at providing an Order-Management and Fulfilment platform which serves order requests across multiple business verticals, at the same time exposing Grab driver capability for external partners.
As the principal engineer in this team, you are expected to understand the business requirements from different stakeholders, and work with the team to design and advance the system architecture which could adapt to various business flows, and also serve high throughput (thousands of QPS) at millisecond latencies.
Get to know the Role:
As a Principal Engineer across our Deliveries teams (e.g. GrabFood, GrabExpress, GrabMart), you would be responsible for architecturing, implementing, and rolling out our next generation of Grab order-management and fulfilment platform.
The day-to-day activities:
Own Deliveries order and fulfilment platforms that are built to meet functional across multiple business models (e.g. Food, Mart, Express).
Design and build APIs, interfaces, and database schemas to ensure scalability, maintainability, and performance across the Deliveries services domain.
Design, implement, instrument, and deploy highly available services with tight SLAs, and champion for operational excellence across initiatives.
Collaborate with stakeholders across teams and roles, to identify and resolve ambiguous, multi dimensional business, legal, and product needs to ensure Deliveries architectures are not just performant and usable, but also compliant.
Lead architecture reviews, code reviews, design reviews, postmortems, and raise the bar for engineering best practices across teams and tech families.
Identify process gaps and establish engineering processes – project management, collaboration, code quality, etc.
Mentor and be a role model for junior engineers.
Participate in interview loops to help Grab continue hiring top industry talent.
The must haves:
8-10 years of relevant experience.
Prior experience designing, implementing, deploying, optimizing, and maintaining critical backend services with tight SLAs, at scale.
Proficient in at least one programming language for backend services, preferably Go or Java.
Knowledge and expertise in distributed systems design and internals.
Prior experience with any / all of Kafka, ElasticSearch, Redis, MySql, Aurora, and / or managed cloud services (specifically, AWS and Azure).
Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
