S&P Global Platts
The Role: Director, Asia Pacific Licensing and Exchange Relationships
Grade ( relevant for internal applicants only ): 12
The Team / The Business: The Global Licensing and Exchange Relationships Team (Licensing) plays a key role in monetizing Platts’ price assessments through commercial arrangements with Exchanges. The team manages the complex relationships with these business partners, which involve both revenue and costs for Platts. With staff in the Americas, London, and Singapore, Licensing has a global remit to drive growth from emerging commodity markets in addition to managing the commercial arrangements for longstanding benchmarks.
As one of the four operating companies under the umbrella of financial information services leader S&P Global, Platts is the gold standard in commodity market news, pricing, and analytics. Platts benchmark price assessments are used to settle tens of millions of dollars of transactions every day, and underpin hundreds of derivatives contracts listed on exchanges. Branching out from its roots in oil, Platts has established a leading presence across commodities including the emerging Energy Transition space.
What we’re looking for: The ideal candidate for the Director, Asia Pacific (APAC) Licensing and Exchange Relationships role will be driven and ambitious while disciplined enough to zero in on the highest value opportunities. As Licensing’s leader in the APAC region, the candidate will be a confident communicator able to build relationships and manage negotiations with key exchange executives in the region. They will be a self-starter able to manage initiatives and negotiations autonomously while keeping stakeholders in the loop. This role’s focus is forging relationships outside of Platts, so the right fit will be outgoing and ready for face-to-face meetings when business travel resumes.
Develop and implement regional strategy
Manage inbound and outbound new business opportunities
Manage negotiations and execute new deals
Lead Licensing team in APAC region
Manager / Individual Contributor
Functional and Business Knowledge
Knowledge of the exchange ecosystem, futures markets, and hedging and risk management needs in commodities markets. Understanding role of Price Reporting Agencies such as Platts in Exchange Ecosystem. Strong strategy development and financial modeling experience.
Platts enjoys complex, bi-lateral and mutually beneficial relationships with our exchange partners. In some cases they depend on us as much as we them, and in other cases, we compete directly and indirectly in the index and data businesses. This means our relationships with the exchanges are handled with care and challenges in the relationships need to be dealt with professionally and skillfully. The Director will require the ability to discover root causes of issues and then manage their resolution to everyone’s satisfaction.
Role requires the ability to communicate with, influence and gain support of S&P Global stakeholders at every level. The global nature of the role requires flexible communication skills and the ability to relate to organizations and people operating across a diverse linguistic and cultural landscape.
Typical Scope & Impact
The scope includes all of Platts’ commodities across the entire Asia Pacific region. The role has direct impact on the success of our benchmarks and is key to delivering over $60 Million in direct revenue to Platts.
Minimum and Preferred Education
Undergraduate degree in Economics, Math, Finance, Business or equivalent. Post graduate degree highly desirable.
Minimum and Preferred Experience/Skills
