Essential Tips for Post-graduation Job Seekers

How to Find a Job in Singapore After College Graduation

July 17, 2019/0 Comments/in Job Seeker Advice

9 Essential Tips for Post-graduation Job Seekers in Singapore

Here are our 9 top tips for landing your first job after graduation, but don’t wait until after you graduate to start your job search. Start with the end game in mind before you graduate and have a career plan or at least an idea of what your first job will be.

Your first job will most likely not be your last job, but it will be the first run on your career ladder.

  1. Start networking for jobs in your penultimate year.
  2. Start applying for jobs within the first few months of your final year.
  3. Contact as many people as possible.
  4. Attend Meetups
  5. Have an elevator pitch ready.
  6. Have an up-to-date CV and cover letter.
  7. Approach companies you would like to work for.
  8. Approach your job search like a job.
  9. Upload your CV to FutureWork.sg

How Long Does it Take a Recent College Graduate to Find a Job?

Over 50% of all college graduates are unemployed or working in a job that doesn’t require a bachelor’s degree.

It takes the average college graduate 3 to six months to secure gainful employment after graduation.

Students benefit from having a career-seeking strategy in place a year before graduation along with previous work (voluntary and charity) experience.

What to Do If You Can’t Get a Job After Graduation

  1. Stay positive. Don’t be upset or surprised if you don’t have a job by graduation day.
  2. Reduce your cost of living.
  3. Continue networking and attending Meetups.
  4. Exercise and stay active.
  5. Broaden your job search.
  6. Build your skill set.
  7. Take up an internship or volunteer position.
